Fishing in the Haltwhistle area

While there are many facilities in and around Haltwhistle which attract visitors to the region, the town has a blossoming fishing sector with the River South Tyne very popular amongst anglers. There are also smaller fishing facilities in the region such as the Haltwhistle Burn but by far and away the River South Tyne is the best fishing river in the area. So what fishing is available?

As well as your traditional brown trout all year round, the South Tyne is also host to sea trout and salmon of differing sizes in season. The “Arches” just outside Haltwhistle have given anglers some of the most thrilling sights with salmon and sea trout working their way up the river and the waterfalls which make up part of the “Arches”. There are also other fishing facilities available in the area such as the Kielder Dam reservoir which offers a variety of fish including rainbow trout and has gone from strength to strength over the years.

Fishing is just one of many pastimes associated with the Haltwhistle area although it is one which has been popular for many years and appears to be growing in popularity again.
